What Makes A Man 2016

The White Ribbon Conference

Friday, February 19, 2016

MaRS Discovery District [MAP]

#WMAM2016 is a one-day discussion-focused event exploring how ideas of manhood impact us in everyday life. There will be two-way conversation in both the physical space and with the online audience joining us from across the continent. We seek to inspire men to embrace roles they can play from the boardroom, to the living room and to the locker room towards change.

The conference’s main sessions will be facilitated discussion sessions exploring various themes.

What Does It Mean To Be A Man Today?

Who was your go-to example, role model, or guide to becoming a man? For many, we are left to figure out the path to manhood on our own in a code of silence. Or the path to manhood is through what we see in the schoolyard, neighborhood, at work, or in movies, music videos,  and television. When we reinforce outdated codes and ideas of manhood, men and boys will strive to achieve a standard of being a man that ensures they will fail as a human being.

We need more positive role models, involved fathers, men, young men and male-identified people embracing the difference they can make towards change. We need new maps to manhood. Let’s chart a new course together for all genders. Make plans to join us at What Makes a Man 2016 in person or online.
